The “DB2 Systems Programmer” has the main responsibility of leading in the conversion of associated DB2 products from one vendor solution to another. The ideal candidate has an expert understanding of DB2 subsystems and other configurations. The DB2 Systems Programmer will maintain the DB2 subsystems procs/JCL, execute backups of DB2 system catalogue and directory files with reorgs, and perform basic change management functions including ticketing, opening/closing changes, etc.

Essential Job Functions

  • Install, upgrade DB2 subsystems. Perform installations of new DB2 subsystems and related sub products; Perform upgrades to existing DB2 subsystems and related sub products.
  • Perform Data Security audits (collecting evidence of compliance, correcting non-compliances found in an audit). Enforcement of DB2 security and audit conformance Perform Disaster Recovery drill exercises.
  • Application of preventative/corrective maintenance PTF's and HIPER PTF's on test and production system software libraries.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and still maintain deadlines and milestones.
  • Perform regular system tuning, and review of memory/resource consumption based on daily performance reporting and on-line monitoring.
  • Work with Automation to provide automation responding to system situations requiring intervention Tune and manage DB2 “bufferpool” settings
  • Develop complex DB2 configurations needed for SYSPLEX environments and DataSharing environments Lead complex projects including client driven projects and internal projects (upgrade projects, etc) deliverables (collectively, the “Deliverables”).
  • Interface with Change Support and vendor software support as necessary to resolve system software problems or issues.
  • Designs and develops highly complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance.
  • Recommends moderately complex systems investment(s) to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future performance, stability, and systems management/life cycle issues.
  • Provides escalated, highly complex technical support to customers by investigating and resolving systems-related matters of significance; provides support telephonically and/or electronically.
  • Plans, conducts and oversees the technical aspects of projects; coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Applies advanced methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of the complex system requirements and problems. Develops training tools and documentation; oversees implementation of same.
  • Provides technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other organizations and clients.
  • Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 12+ years’ experience as a Systems Engineer/Programmer with examples of DB2 expertise.
  • Understand basic parameters contained in DSNZPARM and their usage.
  • Demonstrated experience with restoring service and problem resolution through troubleshooting and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Have managed activities involving the coordination of multiple technical resources and groups.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and still maintain deadlines and milestones.
  • Self-starter having the ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Demonstrated experience with Disaster Recovery (backup and restore, DR plan creation and maintenance)

  • This position is 100% remote within the United States.
  • Provide 24/7 on call support that may be requested during critical projects.
