The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is tasked with the oversight of communities within Illinois to achieve and maintain optimal health and safety. Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Region’s Field Supervisor, conducts surveys, investigations and monitoring visits of long-term care facilities and hospitals to determine compliance with State Licensure requirements and/or Federal Medicare/Medicaid certification regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • As a member of a survey team, travels to conduct on-site nutrition surveys of hospitals and nursing homes and other health care entities to assure compliance with the Nursing Home Care Act, Title XIX and XVIII of the Social Security Act and Hospital Licensing Act.
  • Conducts standardization surveys under direction of supervisor with division staff in the area of nutritional concepts applicable to health care facilities to ensure consistency of technical interpretations.
  • As a member of the health facility survey team explains related laws and outlines violations.
  • Participates in and completes agency sponsored and federal training programs to develop professional skills and knowledge of applicable rules and regulations concerning licensure rules and federal regulations.
  • Under the direction of regional administrative staff assists in moving residents to other facilities in decertification or emergency situations.
  • Assists the Assistant Regional Supervisor with administrative tasks as directed.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college supplemented by a Masters Degree in nutrition, dietetics or food service management; preferably including registration by the American Dietetic Association.
  • Requires working knowledge of state and federal nutrition standards, rules and regulations.
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered Dietitian.
  • Requires ability to travel and possession of a valid Drivers License.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
