Job Description

The Dietitian 2 is part of the multi-disciplinary inpatient or ambulatory care team, providing nutritional care to Harborview's patients. Dietitians perform nutrition assessment, education and medical nutrition therapy and/or directs others in professional administrative dietetic services. The Dietitian participates in quality improvement, professional development, and education of other healthcare professionals. The Dietitian complies with applicable regulatory laws, regulations and HMC scope of practice.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Practices uw medicine service culture guidelines.
  • Follows uw medicine professional image policy.
  • Demonstrates personal time management to complete assignments.
  • Meets individual productivity target goals.
  • Provides nutrition care using the nutrition care process for the nutritionally complex patient populations:.
  • Volunteers to implement new ideas for efficiency, safety and patient engagement - including setting goals, timeframes and identifying resolutions for barriers.
  • Provides nutrition care using the nutrition care process for the nutritionally complex patient populations:.
  • Compiles relevant data to assess nutritional status (data from medical chart, patient/family interview, healthcare team, and physical exam). Collects anthropometric data as appropriate.
  • Develops nutrition care plan.
  • Determines the nutrition diagnoses.
  • Identifies desired outcomes/goals of nutrition care for individual patients.
  • Evaluates nutrition intervention.
  • Provides nutrition education and referral.
  • Documents nutrition care plan and progress in electronic health record (ehr).
  • Participates in evidence-based practice.
  • Communicates and utilizes current nutrition knowledge and research findings in clinical dietetics practice.
  • Integrates food service component into nutrition practice.
  • Gives consultation and reviews menus for compliance with therapeutic guidelines.
  • Works with the health care team.
  • Provides nutrition education programs for health team staff and serves as a preceptor for nutrition and allied health professional students as assigned.
  • Promotes nutrition and health wellness to patients and the community.
  • With delegated authority, participates in the interviewing, on-boarding and performance evaluation of other employees within the department as assigned.
  • Functions as a nutrition support specialist to assigned medical specialty services.


  • Bachelor's degree with major in dietetics, foods & nutrition or food service administration; completion of dietetic association approved dietetic education program; registered dietitian status; 24 months recent full-time experience working as a registered dietitian.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
  • Must obtain cd and complete hmc credentialing paperwork within 3 months of start date.
  • Adherence to the service culture guidelines.
