The Position of Legal Counsel, Employment will support and report to the Deputy General Counsel, Labor & Employment and Chief Compliance Officer and will be responsible for providing proactive and practical day-to-day counseling, legal advice, and support on general U.S. employment matters including, but not limited to, hiring and termination matters, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, wage and hour matters, and employee investigations.

Scope of Role:

  • Provide proactive and practical day-to-day advice on a broad range of U.S. employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, termination, wage and hour, HR practices, performance management, discrimination, disability reasonable accommodation, religious reasonable accommodation, retaliation, and other employment related matters, policies, and procedures
  • Support and partner with the company’s HR teams to provide guidance on employee relations issues, HR risk mitigation and general HR best practices
  • Assist with the creation, implementation, interpretation and enforcement of legally compliant and effective employment processes, policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional partners to sustain and enhance employment law compliance
  • Provide proactive trainings, templates, and guidance documentation support for HR teams
Responsibilities:
  • Advising Human Resources on employment law matters under U.S. federal and state laws (e.g., Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA)
  • Monitoring legal developments to ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws
  • Assisting with internal investigations and working with the HR teams to address findings
  • Drafting and revising internal HR policies, documents, procedures, and templates
  • Conducting employment law compliance trainings
  • Handling and responding to third party subpoenas for employee and/or employment related matters
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant legal experience providing employment law advice and counsel
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active and in good standing bar license

  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle highly confidential information and matters

  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel, Labor & Employment and Chief Compliance Officer
  • Demonstrated leadership, effectiveness, good judgment and excellent attention to detail
