SUMMARY

The Mental Health Strategic Impact Initiative (S2i), an exciting new initiative devoted to mental health change, is seeking a Managing Director to join the senior leadership team. The position is full time and geographically flexible.

THE MISSION

The Mental Health Strategic Impact Initiative (S2i) works to ensure that all people with mental health conditions can live the fullest possible lives in communities of their choice and that public and private systems and resources across multiple sectors are equitably and effectively devoted/aligned to that end. S2i believes that it is essential to have the authentic participation of people with lived experience and to advance race equity to make this happen.

THE OPPORTUNITY

S2i seeks a Managing Director to join S2i’s senior leadership team (SLT). The Managing Director will be chiefly responsible for leading and managing S2i’s operations, stewarding the development and execution of S2i initiatives, programs and projects, and ensuring that operational structures are aligned to meet our commitments and maximize S2i’s potential for impact. In doing so, the Managing Director will work closely and collaboratively with Keris Myrick and Ken Zimmerman, who will focus more extensively on policy, innovation, strategy and partnerships when the Managing Director is hired. Collectively, they will be responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission, programmatic goals, financial sustainability and actively centering race equity and lived experience in every aspect of our work.

THE ORGANIZATION

S2i was founded in July, 2020, with the goal of advancing transformation of mental health for all. Since then, S2i has developed into a platform and incubator that furthers investment in the mental health sector by major philanthropy and cross-sector partnerships among leading actors and thought leaders to advance innovation and tackle long-term challenges. S2i advances policy and practice reform inside and outside of the mental health system, increases mental health advocacy capacity by lifting up racial equity and the voices of those with lived experience of mental health conditions, and expands philanthropic support for mental health innovation by identifying and incubating promising strategies and initiatives. PRIORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Planning and Goal Setting
  • Collaboratively creates and executes the strategic plan of S2i consistent with the mission and vision of the organization
  • Establishes with the SLT the annual and long-term goals consistent with the strategic plan in the areas of program development, financial sustainability, and partnerships
  • Develops assessment metrics to measure progress toward strategic goals
  • Operations
  • Developing and implementing processes and procedures to facilitate and support S2i’s core program activities
  • Accountability for back-office functions including direct management of operational and administrative staff and supports as well as development of administrative process and procedures.
  • Accountability for Human Resources functions including recruitment and onboarding of new staff
  • Development
  • Co-leading fundraising with other members of the senior leadership team to support S2i’s activities
  • Financial management, including developing and maintaining S2i’s budget and supporting development of project budgets
  • Grants management, including supporting development of grant applications and accountability for grant reporting
  • Internal Relationships
  • Program coordination, including facilitating intra-team communication, supporting development of workplans, and ensuring operational support for essential program activities
  • Relationship management support, including maintaining/ expanding relationships with S2i’s Advisory Committee and extended network of experts and funders

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Curiosity, flexibility, and interest in co-leading and supporting development of organizational culture and identity
  • Experience with financial management including budget development and grants management and grant writing
  • Experience working with a broad range of people and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Ability to manage competing projects, demands, and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • 7+ years of experience in a management/ leadership role in a non-profit, private sector, or government setting or equivalent life/other experience. Multi-sector experience strongly preferred with health sector experience, especially behavioral health, a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or another management-related field valuable but not required.
  • Subject matter expertise in mental health is valuable but not required.

LOCATION

Fully remote, with most meetings occurring via Zoom during EST business hours. Potential for some future travel pending public health and safety restrictions.

HOURS/ COMPENSATION

Full time

$150k/ year, potential for higher rate commensurate with experience
