JOB SUMMARY:

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of youth ages 11–24. We offer health care, counseling, and programs for homeless youth.

The Medical Billing Specialist / Accounting Clerk is responsible for managing, directing, and monitoring the client fee system from a financial aspect and from the health-care perspective ensuring that proper coding is followed. The Accounting Clerk portion performs various accounting functions for the agency, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and preparing bank deposits. This position is responsible for ensuring all financial transactions are performed accurately with strong attention to detail and in a timely fashion. This job is full-time at 37.5 hours a week

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Medical Billing responsibilities, about 75% of the job

  • Coordinates the filing and resolution of claims with individual health carriers to insure maximum reimbursement
  • Monitors changes in the health insurance industry and adjusts operating procedures when necessary
  • Reviews and evaluates health insurance claims’ policies and procedures, and develops new procedures to improve the quality and quantity of work processed
  • Ensures all billings follow insurance guidelines
  • Enters charges, insurance and patient payments, and contractual write-offs
  • Enters and maintains credentialing and re-credentialing of all providers
  • Negotiates with clients on fee adjustments and solves insurance claim problems
  • Monitors coding being used for accuracy and ensures that coding follows prescribed procedures
  • Assists and updates staff as needed in proper coding procedures
  • Maintains and routinely updates, daily, the agency billings for client encounters
  • Reconciles billings with patient schedules on a weekly basis
  • Reconciles client moneys submitted to the front desk on a weekly basis
  • Produces patient statements on a regular basis
  • Follows generally accepted accounting principles regarding accounts receivable and financial reporting whenever possible, and follows internal policies regarding write-offs and other financial practices
  • Performs other tasks or projects as requested
  • Provide accounting assistance to agency staff and respond to questions/concerns as they arise;
  • Assist with annual audit and budget preparation;
  • Follow all accounting and internal control policies, procedures and systems;
  • Maintain confidentiality of donors and clients; and
Accounting Clerk responsibilities, about 25% of the job
  • Process agency accounts payables, ensuring proper coding, necessary approvals and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all transactions;
  • Process agency accounts receivables and grant billings, ensuring proper coding and documentation for all transactions;
  • Prepare bank deposits;
  • Sort agency mail following internal controls for processing invoices and revenue;
  • Prepare agency credit card reconciliation;
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all work;

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two-year degree or equivalent education and experience required
  • Minimum of three to five years health care billing in a clinic setting
  • High level of accuracy & attention to detail
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Experience with NextGen and QuickBooks programs preferred
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Able to work independently as well as exercising good judgment to involve others when necessary
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality over the treatment of sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds.

PAY & BENEFITS:

Pay for this role is between $23-24 per hour based on qualifications. Face to Face also offers benefits which include health, dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, 403b account as well as generous PTO (23 days) and paid holidays(10).
