Job Description:

The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is a unified research organization designed to provide innovative, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure that accelerates the translation of discoveries to improve health. The CTSI supports faculty and staff conducting research at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center through the provision of creative tools and services while maintaining the highest standards for conducting safe and ethical research.

CTSI is seeking a full-stack developer to build and support research-focused application systems. The candidate will collaborate and communicate among faculty, product managers, other software developers, and operations professionals to design, test, deploy, and support multiple solutions across a full software stack from the web or mobile front-ends through applications servers to database back-ends.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, designs and implements medium-sized research information systems. Exhibits ability to learn to use a variety of research computer software tools and operating system environments.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree with computer courses. Two years' experience in computer programming or operations research; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience in computer programming.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong initiative and proven ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate on a professional level with customers and staff
  • Superior problem-solving skills
  • Experience with:
  • Python or other object-oriented languages
  • front-end web frameworks such as Django, React
  • SQL queries and multi-tier SQL system development
  • code versioning systems such as Git
  • agile software development and the software life cycle
  • system administration, Windows, and Linux
  • cloud deployments on systems such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with healthcare and/or biomedical research operations and systems is beneficial
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Oversees all phases of database design, development, management and reporting for medium-sized projects.
  • Consults with users on project design needs. Maintains a professional relationship with project personnel.
  • Maintains software and troubleshoot simple software products.
  • Performs a range of ad hoc queries to databases and the implementation of automated reporting schemes. Analyzes quality control needs of moderate-sized projects.
  • Performs a wide variety of data transfers and conversions.
  • Creates and maintains user manuals and documentation of software products.
  • Design and implements a comprehensive software testing plan for software products.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to work described herein.
