The Project Engineer acts as a lead over an assigned project or program and demonstrates advanced design capabilities. Provides technical guidance to other engineers, oversees and assures proper coordination of the program schedule, engineering budgets, coordinates specific engineering activities such as design, design reviews, drawing development and release and drawing standards.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Must be proficient in CATIA CAD system in the following modules:
  • Design and Drafting
  • Advanced Surfacing
  • Manufacturing (CNC)
  • Must be proficient performing CNC programming using CATIA manufacturing module and posting through a post processor (CENIT).
  • Must be proficient and verifying programs using Vericut (latest version).
  • Practical experience posting programs to CNC controller and operating a 5-axis CNC machine.
  • Practical experience setting up a CNC vacuum fixture including using Rennishaw probing of tooling ball references to perform work piece position and rotational offsets.
  • Experience trimming and drilling of laminated carbon composites as a Tier 1 supplier or OEM.
  • Practical experience using Siemens 840D controller a MUST.
  • Practical experience operating a Zimmermann FZ or FZU 5 axis router/mill preferred. If candidate has not used a Zimmermann machine, experience with a comparable is a MUST.
  • Experience with training new operators is recommended.
  • Leads engineers in project or program activities.
  • Responsible for the quality of the design/drawings for each assigned program.
  • Responsible for considering design factors including ability to produce, interchangeability, maintainability, reliability, cost, materials and design efficiency.
  • Interface and coordinate with external customers in a design and engineering capacity.
  • Maintains liaison activities with Program Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Structures, Quality Assurance, Tooling and Production personnel.
  • Performs preliminary design analysis such as stress calculations, weight calculations and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Oversees engineering program schedules and coordinates specific engineering activities such as design, test, prototype development and the transition from development to production.
  • Prepares documentation reporting the results of analytical, test and design activities conducted and makes presentation to personnel in engineering, manufacturing, management and customers.
  • Develops engineering and program cost estimates including estimating tooling and fixture cost, process development and risk reduction cost, engineering design and specification development cost.
  • Marketing and proposal support.
  • Material Review Board (MRB) responsibilities.
  • Adhere to all Aeromatrix Composites Safety Procedures and Safety Accountabilities (Ref. SP-011).
  • Other duties may be assigned.
