Senior CAD Designer (R&D) – Heart Failure Burlington, MA

As Senior CAD Designer, you will be part of our Heart Failure product development team focused on designing and developing innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical medical devices or subsystems/components in support of the company’s strategic plan. In this role, under limited supervision, you will support engineers and technicians in the creation and revision of CAD models and/or detailed drawings for medical devices, fixtures, and tooling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Generates 3D CAD models and detailed drawings of new and existing design concepts using SolidWorks.
Adheres to and applies ASME Y14.5-2009 dimensioning and tolerancing standards to detailed drawings.
Generates and/or modifies complex 3D models using advanced modeling techniques such as multi-bodies, surfacing, 3D sketches, configurations, master modeling, etc.
Completes engineering change requests, updating all applicable documents to current Abbott MCAD standards.
Maintains CAD files and corresponding documents in Windchill PDMLink data management system.
Collaborates with engineers and technicians to conceptualize and develop new technologies.
Performs virtual design validations of 3D CAD models to ensure model design integrity.
Provides solutions to moderately complex or infrequently occurring problems by using existing precedents or procedures.
Ensures that quality system requirements are being met.
Ensures a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and Abbott Policies.
Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements:
Certificate, Diploma, or Associates Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting, or Equivalent Work Experience
6+ years of work experience in a Mechanical Drafter/Designer role
Proficient using SolidWorks 2018 or later versions
Proficient using Windchill PDMLink 10.2/11.0 with Workgroup Manager or equivalent PLM/PDM system
Proficient using SolidWorks to generate complex models using advanced modeling techniques such as multi-bodies, surfacing, sheet-metal, configurations, design tables, master modeling, etc.
Experience applying a variety of machining/manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability (e.g., Plastic Injection Molding, CNC Machining, Laser Machining, Laser Welding, Extrusions, Braiding)
Demonstrated capability using engineering measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers
Proficient using Microsoft Office 365 product
Ability to work within large multi-discipline teams as an individual contributor in a fast-paced changing environment
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
Strong organizational, planning, prioritization, and follow-up skills is required to meet deadlines in a timely manner
Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
Preferred Qualifications / Education
Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or Professional (CSWP) certification, advanced SolidWorks certifications also a plus
Experience using Solidworks 2018 or later and AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 or later
Broad technical knowledge; expertise in one or more relevant specialties (i.e. Electrophysiology, Cardiac Rhythm Management, Heart Failure, Vascular, or Neuromodulation)
Experience generating visualization assets (renderings or animations) from 3D CAD data. Knowledge of SolidWorks Visualize, Composer, Autodesk Maya, or Blender
Experience generating and importing anatomical models from CT Scan data or importing 3D scanned data into SolidWorks
Experience using GD&T dimensions on drawings
