GATX is looking for an intellectually curious individual to join its Chicago-based team and provide research and analysis to support our business and Customer Experience goals. This role offers unique exposure to market research as it relates to gathering and synthesizing online content on different rail industry trends, commodities, and competitors, as well as assisting with the launch of internal and external surveys.
This is a hybrid internship which will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the summer. The employee may work remotely the balance of the time.
Responsibilities
With oversight and direction from the Director of Customer Experience and Senior Industry Analyst, the Market Research Intern will:
Develop strategic briefings on various industries, competitors, and customers
Assist with development of market-related slides and Excel files for GATX leadership use
Update PowerPoint-based Sales support material
Listen for relevant information and take notes on various earnings calls
Compile and send weekly internal newsletter, including data analysis and news gathering
Assist with development of commodity and equipment market briefings used in investment review process
Evaluate current GATX research subscriptions and others available in the market to identify potential new sources
Perform data cleaning and assist with other preparations for the 2022 Annual Customer Survey
Participate in and document meetings related to various Customer Experience initiatives
Complete long-term research project on rail- or freight-related topic
Other ad-hoc research projects and surveys as needed
Please note that the responsibilities may change depending on business needs, but a variety of projects will be made available to the Market Research Intern according to proven research abilities.
Qualifications
Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Market Research, Business, Economics, Transportation and Logistics, or a related discipline with proven academic achievement (GPA 3.2 or higher)
Strong analytical and research skills, including ability to gather, organize, and synthesize data from disparate sources
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple short- and long-term projects to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently in hybrid environment and think creatively
Well-organized, with strong attention to detail
Experience writing for a business/professional audience is preferred, including identifying reputable sources of information and citing them appropriately
Experience in survey methodologies and procedures is preferred
